The solution for contaminated water meters
Not only since end of 2014 when several newspapers from Hamburg, Berlin, Augsburg and Munich reported about brand-new water meters being contaminated by Pseudomonas aeruginosa we know that the load of bacteria of our potable water respectively the “Disinfection of potable water installations for the elimination of microbial contamination (Twin 05)” is an important issue.
The German Drinking Water Act (§4) notes “Potable water must be provided in a way that its use and consumption does not cause any damage of human health – especially by pathogenic organisms.”
Every six years the household water meters are being exchanged. Prior to their supply the producers do testing of each individual meter with water on the test-bench and a small residue of this water remains in the casting and lid. Most of the water meters remain stored over weeks and months prior to their installation in the buildings. This leads to contamination of the water meters.
Therefore water meters shall be disinfected by the fitters prior to their installation in order to avoid the transport of Pseudomonas aeruginosa into the water lines. So, each day before delivery and installation in the buildings of the end customer the water meters will be disinfected using the disinfector device which Mainsite Technologies has developed in cooperation with Moesslein. Three different units are available:
- Model MMT-2.5-2 for 2 Pcs. water meters Qn2.5
- Model MMT-6.0-2 for 2 Pcs. water meters Qn6.0
- Model MMT-2.5-8 for 8 Pcs. water meters Qn2.5
Only a few minutes are necessary to flush and clean the water meters with a disinfection solution. Thus cleaned and protected the water meters are transported to the place of installation and fitted there. Then pseudomonas bacteria have no chance anymore.
